Hi there! I bet you thought my name was Patsy...

Actually, My name is Kathy-Ann Elise but my family and friends call me Lisa.

Fun fact: My mom Patsy is Jamaican and Jamaicans always have 2 names, the name on your birth certificate and a nickname you're called by the people who know you best. I have no idea why!

I grew up in the Turks & Caicos Islands learning how to bake from my mom Ann Patricia - affectionately called Patsy by her family. (See? I told you about two-name syndrome!) I named Patsy's Rum Cake after her. She showed me the beauty of caring for others with food.

Here are some more (somewhat random) fun facts:

My family moved to Florida when I was 13 and one of the things I missed most was the food. I often craved the rum cake you can buy on vacation in the Caribbean. You know the one. It's packaged in tins and sold in every gift shop.

I baked my first rum cake over ten years ago on a day when I was feeling particularly nostalgic. It was everything I had been longing for! Actually, it was an even better version because I made it with real butter and milk and no preservatives. Learn more about my ingredients.

My family and friends loved it too! Fast forward ten years of tweaking my recipe and baking my rum cake for pretty much every special occasion and it's now a firm favorite.

I believe in cocktail hour. Every. Single. Day.

I started Patsy's Rum Cake last year as a side hustle. In April, when I was laid off from my job as a fashion designer, I decided to make it my full-time gig. I like baking more anyway.

After years of wanting to live in NYC, I finally found my happy place in Brooklyn, and moved here from Florida in 2013.

My guilty pleasure is cheesy 80s movies with a horror or sci-fi twist. Think The 'Burbs, Gremlins, Close Encounters, Little Shop of Horrors...preferably with a side of rum cake.

I have an unhealthy love of ketchup. It's been that way since I was a child. Yes, I know I'm weird.

Last year I finally crossed a major to-do off my bucket list. Camping at Havasu Falls! I made the 10-mile hike with a gigantic pack on my back, pitched my tent in the dark, and camped by myself for 4 nights! Oh and did I mention that it was my first time camping? Ever.

I love cake, but I hate icing. Replace it with rum and you've got yourself one happy camper. 😜
